2014 Regional Readers Cup Competition

Whitfield SS Cultural Singing Group
The much anticipated annual Children's Book Council Readers Cup Competitions for the Far North Queensland were held in the past week.

The  year 6 & 7 competition at Whitfield School had a record 25 teams representing schools from West to Dimbulah; North to Mossman and South to Gordonvale.

The competition was complete with the pomp and ceremony of any major sporting event, with competitors being welcomed by the Whitfield Cultural Singing Group; a gleaming Readers Cup Trophy and place winning medals.

in preparation for the Regional Finals Competition, each team has been closely reading 6 selected titles since the beginning of April.

The competition format is a series of quiz questions about the set books. As the questions are read out, team members huddle in close to quickly but ever so quietly discuss and then record their answers.

After 6 rounds of questions, spot prizes, the scores are tallied and a drum rolls.
The winners for this year were presented by Mr Clive Dixon:-

The Year 8 & 9 Readers Cup Competition held in Malanda involved students from 13 Secondary Schools from across the region. Reports indicate that this day too was thoroughly enjoyed by the students and teachers attending.  Many thanks to Teacher Librarian Lyndell Sellars who continues to do a mighty job convening the secondary school competition and keeping everyone up to date in the lead up to the events.
